How many lines did I draw in total on this design? I'd say thousands!
To create each motif, I started by sketching it with a pencil, which I then scanned into my computer. Next, I used a fine liner pen to trace over the pencil drawing. In hindsight, I realise that it would have been better to draw the motifs in a more organised and regimented way instead of drawing them upside down and back to front, but at the time, I didn't think about it.
I was aiming to create a Victorian etching style, which required me to redraw each motif using a fine liner until I achieved the desired outcome. When I was at university, I started experimenting with this particular drawing style. However, I wasn't satisfied with the outcome I was producing. I never anticipated that it would take me such a long time to refine the style to a point where I was content with the result.
The process of creating this design demanded a significant amount of patience, which I'm not sure where it came from. In fact, it may explain why I haven't drawn anything since completing this particular piece!
